Adult and Youth Community Services

An Adult and Youth Community Counsellor (also known as an Adult Protection Service Worker) provide a range of services to youth and adults. The primary objective is to support adults with a developmental disability to live as independently, safely, and securely as possible in their community. DSLG’s Adult and Youth Community Counsellor services include:

  • Development of an individualized plan
  • Service co-ordination.
  • Advocacy
  • Counselling in the areas of problem solving, decision-making, housing, employment, finances, life skills, family issues, legal issues, and other individual issues.
  • Long-term planning and assisting with independence building.
  • Assistance with individualized funding applications
  • Linking services for individuals
  • Clinical, recreational and life skills programs offered on an individual and/or group basis.
  • Transportation, medical appointments, advocacy, and making referrals to other programs.
  • Crisis management/ counselling
